"The opportunities for the pursuit of health and happiness among the millions of people who live in this country" - Winston Churchill
What was Sir Winston Churchill talking about?
Daylight Savings Time of course... and Daylight Savings Time has my circadian rhythm mismatched with wake/sleep hours of everyone else. I am by nature the biggest morning person in the World. Which is not to say that I have a hard time sleeping. I sleep very well and need my 8-10 hours. Which means that now I routinely have the joy of waking up at 4am and crawling into bed with heavy eyelids at 9pm.
At least during the Spring and Summer months I had a fighting chance of living like "everyone else" with more "reasonable" sleep times (10pm - 5am).
I had already known that it was a remnant of policies that sprung up during WWII (like the Provincial Sales Tax (PST)... <- which was ONLY to help build infrastructure during and after the war but lasted until the Harmonized Sales Tax came into effect *pout*).
Turns out switching timetables for parts of the world affects other people (just like ME!)
Crime rates, energy usage, suicide rates, car accidents have all be studied with the daylight savings change in mind.
And there are a LOT of places in the world that do not observe or have never observed daylight savings time. *SHOUT OUT TO MY PEEPS ACROSS THE GLOBAL VILLAGE*
How neat it is that we live in a global village with 24 (plus a few 1/2) time zones AND alternating times during the year! :D
All this to standardize things to make it EASIER to communicate, to do business, to entertain, to share.
